Initial Speech Registration Agreement

By registering to participate in the WISDAA Speech series, coaches agree to the following terms:

(1). I will verify students I enter are eligible for interscholastic participation under my school’s regulations as well as WISDAA rules, including that they have permission of my principal/school administration to participate.

(2). As a condition of participation, I am committing my school to enroll in WISDAA membership if it hasn’t already.

(3). I certify that selections, topics, and student presentations in all categories chosen by and created by members of our team:(a) represent our school and community standards in their use of subject matter, language, and use of gesture; and(b). abide by all laws regarding copyright, intellectual property, and permission for use and adaptation.

(4). If participating virtually, I must have consent of students’ parents/guardians for:(a) sharing prerecorded videos on a school-approved video/file-sharing website with publicly viewable links; and(b) if students wish to view peers’ videos, to provide an email address in accordance with school policies, for students to create an account on SpeechWire.com and log in to view peers’ videos.

(5). I must obtain consent of my school, students, and their parents/guardians to share private information of students for whom I am requesting accommodations/modifications for accessibility (as per FERPA/IDEA laws).

(6). I will add names of adjudicators who will evaluate each contest in which I enter students (those will not carry forward as contestants will, from level to level).

(7). Each school participating in the WISDAA High School State Speech Festival at UW-Madison must provide one (1) supervising adult for every 10 minors, or fraction thereof; with a minimum of two (2) supervising adults per school. Schools must screen all supervising adults, including coaches and adjudicators, with a background check done within four (4) years, and attest that all adults have completed training in youth protection and mandatory reporting (WISDAA will have links to free courses on the State Speech webpage). There may be an additional accountability step ahead of the State Speech Festival for schools to verify they are in compliance with UW-Madison’s aforementioned Youth Protection Policies.

(8). After entries have advanced from the District level, each school must re-register for the State Speech Festival by the deadline posted on the State Speech webpage. Part of this process will include providing documentation for where schools plan to meet after their round (we’ll provide several suggestions).
